Before anyone freaks out on the Saints drafting a smallish running back out of Cal, just remember it’s the 7th round and anything in the 7th round is a reach or a “project.”

I get it that the offensive guard wasn’t addressed (I’m still weeping) but at this point anyone selected here is a long shot.

The Saints select Daniel Lasco with their last pick

USC v California

Injuries stumped Lasco’s 2015 campaign but in 2014 he rushed for 1,115 yards and caught 33 passes, not too shabby for a late round selection. The guess here is special teams is his route to the team, meaning Marcus Murphy really needs to show out at camp because the shot has been fired across his bow.

Lasco opened eyes at the combine posting a broad jump of 11 feet, 3 inches which was the best for any running back at the Combine in at least 10 years. He also chimed in with a quick 40 yard dash at 4.46 but what impressed me was his 23 reps on the 225 bench press, that my friends is strong for a man his size (6-0 209 lbs)

Lets keep an open mind with this young man, who knows? he may be that guy that becomes a camp story and catches everybody’s eyes…we’ll know soon enough.

I’ll be manning the station bringing you the UDFA’s as we find out, stay tuned, it’s not over yet.
