James Laurinaitis agreed today to a deal with the Saints.  Laurinaitis is a former linebacker with the Los Angeles Rams. He played college football at Ohio State, where he was a three-time consensus All-American and recognized as the top college linebacker.  He was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft and was recently cut by the Rams. He has never missed a game in his pro career.  He is 29 years old.

Laurinaitis will provide linebacking, veteran depth behind Stephone Anthony.  Laurinaitis has always played middle linebacker.  It is hoped providing a rotational status will help keep him fresh throughout the 2016 season, allowing him to round into form. He should be viewed as this year’s David Hawthorne.
