The Saints are interested in James Laurinaitis and it is reported the free agent linebacker will visit the Saints facility next week.  Laurinaitis was unexpectedly cut by the Los Angeles Rams on Friday, February 19, 2016. He had been asked by the team to help with fan building in Los Angeles. The Rams wanted him to make himself available to the media in Los Angeles to help build up the team’s move. Laurinaitis told Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

“So I was like, if they’re gonna call and ask me to do that, I must be all right,” he said. “I thought maybe at worst, a pay cut. I still felt like I was producing.”

Saints Interested in James Laurinaitis

Laurinaitis has been less productive lately but has always been durable–playing all sixteen games each season for the Rams.

Laurinaitis appears to have some productive football left in the tank despite his decrease in production, especially given his ability to stay on the field. For teams looking to bring a steady veteran presence to their linebackers unit, Laurinaitis would be a welcomed addition.

If he is considered by the Saints as added depth and can still play, his signing would be a good move.  A veteran snap count may help him to rebound in the near term.  If he does appear to have productive football left, and his ability to stay on the field would be welcome in the defensive rotation.  He would also add a steady veteran presence to the linebacking unit.

Since James Laurinaitis was cut by the Rams, he is a current free agent and would be available to be signed immediately.
