Ronald Darby the cornerback out of Florida St has something that can’t be taught – natural speed. That’s the first thing that pops out at you watching him, the kids got some wheels. But in my opinion if his technique matched his speed he would be in the conversation for one of the day one picks – sadly his technique is not up to par but you can see he has plenty of upside, just don’t expect him to be a day one starter.

A work in progress is how I would describe the former track star. When Darby is in man press coverage he very rarely gets his arms extended on the receiver, instead he relies on his speed and hip turn to run with the wide-out. You can see he has very good control of his lower body and back peddles and turns with ease.

His technique breakdowns stem from his lack of reading the receiver correctly and route recognition. He sometimes gets turned in the wrong direction and can be fooled by the inside move.

Darby’s run support is a mixed bag, it looks like he wants to get in there and mix it up but always seems to be caught in traffic or pushed out of the play, when he is able to get a shot in and it’s not much, he doesn’t shy away from trying to deliver a big hit.

Analyst have him all over the place, anywhere from late 1st round to the 3rd or even the 4th round. If I’m the Saints I wouldn’t touch him in the first two rounds, anything after that it is fair game.
